What Lies
Beneath.

Beyond the Grave is a Halloween-season pop-up cocktail experience — part haunted attraction, part craft cocktail bar, fully resurrected.

Step past the tombstones into a candle-lit lair where bartenders moonlight as necromancers and every drink tells a ghost story. Eyeball martinis. Witch-brewed punches. Smoking concoctions that wouldn't look out of place in a 1960s monster movie.

✦ Questions & Séances ✦

Ask the Dead.

Everything the living tend to want to know before they knock.

Do I need a ticket, or can I just turn up?

You can just turn up. Tickets are sold at the door every night we're open, subject to capacity — no advance purchase required, no list to be on.

That said, seating is limited and the crypt fills, so a ticket bought ahead is the only way to guarantee you get in. Advance tickets go up on Eventbrite before opening night — drop your email in the cauldron below and we'll send the link the moment it's live.

How old do I have to be?

Depends when you come. From 5 PM to 8 PM it's all ages — bring the kids, bring your gran, everyone's welcome to see the place with the candles lit.

From 8 PM until close it's 21 and over, and that's a hard line: everyone under 21 needs to be out by 8, not winding down at 8. After that, bring a valid government-issued photo ID. The door checks every single one, and it is unmoved by charm.

Is it actually scary?

No. Nobody jumps out at you, nobody chases you, nobody lays a hand on you. It's a cocktail bar wearing a monster costume — think Universal Monsters ordering a martini, not a haunted maze. Candles, fog, and a very theatrical staff. That's the whole trick.

Do I have to wear a costume?

Never required, always encouraged. Turn up in jeans and nobody looks twice. Turn up as the Bride of Frankenstein on a Friday and you might leave with a tab you didn't pay for.

Can I reserve a table?

No reservations — tables are first come, first served. Check in with the hostess when you arrive and she'll seat you.

Tables are yours for 90 minutes. It's a small room and a short season, so that's how everyone gets a turn at one. A ticket covers entry, not a particular seat, so if you want a specific corner of the crypt, come early.

We're coming as a group. What do we do?

Ten or fewer, everyone grabs a ticket like any other mortal. More than ten, ring the hotline and a human will sort you out — that's a conversation, not a form.

Where do I park?

Free street parking after dark, all along Old River School Rd. Look for the candles in the window — that's the door. If you're drinking, Uber and Lyft both run in Downey, and we won't lecture you.

What nights are you open?

Thursday through Sunday, 5 PM to 1:30 AM, from September 25 right through All Hallows' Eve. All ages until 8 PM, then 21+ until we lock up. Closed Monday through Wednesday — even the dead rest. It's all indoors, so rain changes nothing.

Something we haven't answered?

Call (562) 372-4422 and ask. We'd rather tell you exactly than guess — especially about accessibility, food, and zero-proof drinks, which deserve a straight answer from someone who knows the room rather than a hopeful one from a webpage.
